Book Review: Creating Caricature Heads in Wood and on Paper
Presented by Wayne Dubberke
Jan 28 & 29, 2026
Kick off the new year with a fun and insightful look at one of the most beloved resources in caricature carving! Wayne Dubberke will lead us through a spirited review of Marvin Kaisersatt’s classic instructional book, Creating Caricature Heads in Wood and on Paper — a hands-on guide full of practical technique, design insight, and the author’s whimsically humorous take on the art of caricature.
Whether you’re just starting out or looking to sharpen your carving chops, this book (and Wayne’s take on it) delivers solid instruction with a smile. Expect tips on proportion, expression, tools, and creative design — all presented with Kaisersatt’s friendly, often witty voice that makes learning as fun as the carvings themselves.

The West Wisconsin Wood Carvers Guild is pleased to welcome back Fred and Elaine Stenman for a four-day, all-day low relief carving workshop in August, running Thursday, August 20th through August 23rd. The Stenmans have been teaching low relief carving to our Guild for more than 20 years, and their classes are always a favorite.
Elaine will lead the instruction, with Fred assisting and offering artistic guidance throughout the workshop. They will bring an excellent selection of woods, patterns, tools, and paints for those who need them. Participants should bring their own knives, gouges, tools and—most importantly—a desire to create great art.
The workshop will once again be held at the Chippewa Falls Senior Center.
