A Woodcarver

Woodcarvers are good people, men and women from all walks of life.  They are young and old and middle aged. Some are short, and some are tall, many “righties” and some “lefties”.

There are many common traits of good carvers. Ever meet a carver who didn’t like to talk or share ideas with friends or strangers alike? All carvers love to see a fish, a flower, a bird, or a cowboy emerge from a block of basswood that once was a stately tree.

Good carvers are creative and enjoy re-creating a figure or face or an animal. Their artistic and engineering skills are truly gifts from God.

Envy, jealousy and pride have no place in a good woodcarver’s life for he or she understands that it was God who provided the tree and the wood.  He also provided the interest, the keen artistic eye and skill. So the glory is not in the final piece or the gifted carver, but to Him who gave us everything.
