A Woodcarver

Woodcarvers are good people, men and women from all walks of life.  They are young and old and middle aged. Some are short, and some are tall, many “righties” and some “lefties”.

There are many common traits of good carvers. Ever meet a carver who didn’t like to talk or share ideas with friends or strangers alike? All carvers love to see a fish, a flower, a bird, or a cowboy emerge from a block of basswood that once was a stately tree.

Good carvers are creative and enjoy re-creating a figure or face or an animal. Their artistic and engineering skills are truly gifts from God.

Envy, jealousy and pride have no place in a good woodcarver’s life for he or she understands that it was God who provided the tree and the wood.  He also provided the interest, the keen artistic eye and skill. So the glory is not in the final piece or the gifted carver, but to Him who gave us everything.

Fall Intaglio Training - Greg Wirtz

Calling all passionate carvers!

Are you ready to take your carving skills to the next level? We are thrilled to announce an upcoming Intaglio Carving Class, led by the esteemed instructor Greg Wirtz. With over a decade of teaching experience and a collection of prestigious carving awards under his belt, Greg brings unparalleled expertise and passion to the art of carving.

But what exactly is Intaglio carving, you might ask? Intaglio is a centuries-old technique where the design is carved into a surface, typically a metal plate or a hard material like wood or stone, creating an image that is sunken below the surface. This process produces stunning prints with rich, textured details that are perfect for creating intricate artwork, illustrations, or even decorative pieces.

Mark your calendars for Thursday and Friday, September 19th and 20th, for this exceptional opportunity to delve into the intricate world of intaglio carving. Whether you’re a seasoned carver or just starting your journey, this class promises to inspire and challenge you in new ways.

Stay tuned for more details on the class location, enrollment costs, and registration dates. In the meantime, make sure you have the recommended tools ready:
